An Easier Approach to Crack Critical Reasoning CLAT 2013
Oct 12th 2012, 15:44

The following method provides a Practical Approach to Crack Critical Reasoning questions in CLAT 2013 AND AILET 2013 STEP1: First of all, Read the question stem very carefully and determine the question type. STEP2: Read the argument carefully and figure out the conclusion. STEP3: Guess the answer without looking at the options STEP4: and then finally go through the options finding for something that you predicted. More to remember: 1)In the step 2, make sure that you paraphrase the argument. Paraphrasing will make the understanding of the argument much easier and you will be able to predict the answer with greater ease. 2)Do not strengthen/weaken the evidence given in the argument. Usually 2 options will do that so you can straightaway eliminate these options. 3)It is entirely possible that more than one option maybe strengthening or weakening the argument. You have to find the option which strengthens/weakens the argument the MOST that means 4)To figure out the conclusion in an argument easily watch out for conclusion indicators such as therefore, thus, as a result, consequently etc. 5)A conclusion is generally an opinion. So it will either be a recommendation or will have some prediction. That's a really easy to figure out the conclusion. The question stem for a strengthen question may appear in any of the forms below:- Which of the following , if true, strengthens the argument above ? Which of the following , if true, supports the argument above ? The question stem for a weaken question may appear in any of the forms below Which of the following , if true, weakens the argument above ? Which of the following , if true, casts doubt on the argument above ? Which of the following , if true, undermines the argument above ? Which of the following , if true, challenges the argument above ? To sum up, words such as weakens, casts doubt, undermines, challenges should be focused upon very carefully in the question stem indicate that it's a weaken type of question. In all of the above question stems, the word argument could also be replaced by the "conclusion" or "inference" but the same strategy is to be followed.
