Statement assumption type questions have been an important part of CLAT right from the year 2008. Atleast 5 questions have been asked from this area right from the beginning. Solve the following question in order to master this area:- Directions (1-3) : In each question below is/are given statement(s) followed by two assumptions/inferences numbered I and II. An assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. And an inference can be inferred from the given information. You have to consider the statement(s) and the following assumptions/inferences and decide which of the assumptions/inferences is implicit in the statement(s). Give answer (1) if only I is implicit. Give answer (2) if only II is implicit. Give answer (3) if either I or II is implicit. Give answer (4) if neither I nor II is implicit. Give answer (5) if both I and II are implicit. 1. Statement: "Sometimes a person acting out of conviction, pursuing a dream represents the spirit of an entire generation". I. One gets conviction out of one's action. II. Expectations of different generations are not the same. 2. Statement: 'Take a recruitment system, for example. The company would make an offer to somebody it had rejected three months ago! There was no recruitment database that kept record of that". I. It is possible to devise a system which would indicate those applicants who were rejected earlier. II. This company considers three months time too short a period to reconsider recruitment decision about a candidate. 3. Statement: "Everyone does not need to build a 100 crore or 1000 crore company. Small vs big vs superbig is a choice that an entrepreneur makes herself / himself depending upon the ambitions, values and what she/he likes doing". I. The figures are for the turnover of the company. II. There is hardly any distinction between a small or a big company. 4.Statement: Please send an official letter rather than semiofficial on this subject this time. Assumptions: I. The format and emphasis of different types of letters is different. II. We can send different types of letters on the same subject. 5. Statement: Please check the availability of 2 tickets from Delhi to Lucknow. Assumptions: I. Person checking knows the desired mode of travel. II. Person checking knows the details of the person travelling. 6. Statement: If you want to increase your writing speed, use 0.7 pen. Assumptions: I. There are different types of pens available. II. The person being told understands what is 0.7 pen. 7. Statement: In order to build more space, extra FSI needs to be bought. Assumptions: I. The person being told does not know the meaning of FSI II. More space will reduce the construction cost. 8. Statement: Let there be a signboard also indicating the directions and instructions. Assumptions: I. Signboard can be prepared without using any language. II. Signboard is the only effective tool to indicate directions. 9. Statement: " It doesn't matter where or how a car is built. It's only the utility and price that is important:. – A multinational automobile company. Assumption: I. Even if the price is high, people will purchase the foreign-built car. II. People prefer indigenous cars to foreign-media ones. 10.Statement : The campaign of keep your city clean started by the civic council did not evoke any response from the citizen. Assumptions : I. People do not desire to keep their city clean. II. The civic council has failed in its campaign. 11. Statement :Whenever you have anydoubt on this subject you may refer tothe book Enn & Enn. Assumptions : I. The book by Enn & Enn is available. II. There is no other book on this subject. 12. Statement : "We should inform all ourofficers not to read newspapers during office hours" - Chief Manager tells Chief Administrator. Assumptions : I. Reading newspapers during office hours is desirable. II. Office efficiency will not increase by stopping this. 13. Statement : Use 'Kraft' colours. They add colour to your life:- An advertisement. Assumptions : I. Catchy slogans do not attract people . II. People like dark colours. 14. Statement : `Double your money in five months' :- An advertisement. Assumptions : I. The assurance is not genuine. II. People want their money to grow. 15. Statement : Dereliction of duty and indiscipline have come to stay in this organisation. Assumptions : I. Organisation is what the employees are II. Employees are expected to do their duty.
