English is of 40 marks in the CLAT exam and is a cake pie for those who are good at it and is albatross around ones neck who are not that good. But since it is part of CLAT you need to exceptionally good in this particular section. So, in this article I am going to discuss that how you can score good marks in English so here I start… STEP-1 (Books)
  • Grammar- Wren & Martin (This is actually a very good book for English and if u are done with this book no one can ever beat you in grammar. You need to buy this book with answers so that when you solve the exercises on various topics you can always check and get to know your mistakes)
  • Vocabulary- You can go for a book by Norman Lewis but the best way to cover this part is newspaper when you study newspaper mark all the difficult words and then try guessing them out and then find their meaning from the dictionary finally, jot them down somewhere. Since newspaper uses the vocabulary which is important this can help you a lot.
  • . Other topics- Pearson's or Tata McGraw-Hill's English book for practicing other topics.
STEP-2 (Topics to be covered) 1. Grammar- Articles, Prepositions, Active & passive voice, Verbs- Their formation and their usage, Modals, Concord(Subject-Verb Agreement), Phrasal verbs & Conditionals 2. Other topics- Idioms & Phrases, Synonyms, Antonyms, Choose appropriate word ( cloze test), Spotting errors, Sentence Sequencing, Para jumbles and reading comprehension STEP-3 (Time to be denoted) You need to give 2-3 hours a week for this section. STEP-4 (Some Tips) 1. Make notes for grammar. Grammar is basically like math's formulas so please try writing the grammar formulas too. Try writing the grammar formulas every day. 2. Reading comprehension also needs practice because you need to be speedy in solving them.
