My Law School : GNLU

I am a student of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and through this post I would like to give a brief idea about my University.
GNLU was established by Dr Madhav Menon among others in the year 2004. It, like other law schools was built to increase the quality of law graduates joining the bar and the bench. It is situated in between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The place is very green and serene. There are very few places of entertainment in and around the campus but transport is cheap so you can go to Ahmedabad very easily and frequently. The campus, as you might have heard, is simply amazing. 45 acres of land for less than 1000 students. There is a 3 storied library with adequate sitting and internet facilities. The classrooms are similar to the ones we see in a lot of prestigious Universities. Hostel rooms are one of the best in all law schools. Twin sharing for both boys and girls. The mess is also manageable. You will not die of hunger. Faculties are pretty decent. We have our share of Good, Bad and Ugly. Its the same situation in all NLUs or I guess in all Universities of India. Most of the faculties are student friendly. They help you solve doubts relating to studies and even talk about random personal things if you want. Some of the faculties are so good that you'd want to attend their class out of personal choice rather than attendance compulsion. We have a very diverse crowd. We have had students from close to 21 States and a few Union Territories. The usual batch strength is 160 students which is a lot but that helps you meet a lot of new people and learn a lot of different things from them. GNLU students appreciate talent. People will respect you if you can sing, dance, plan an instrument, are a good orater, can play Counter Strike like you are invincible, write notes during boring classes, have a good sense of humour, are a foodie, have a good collection of movies/sitcoms or are in general just a good guy/girl. :) Seniors don't rag. They are very helpful. There will be no problem that a junior has for which his/her seniors don't have multiple solutions! 160 students per batch makes placements a very competitive thing. Thankfully we have had good placements year after year. Considering GNLU is just 9 years old, we have had pretty impressive placements. Statistics are available on a lot of websites with regard to this. Apart from the usual law firm and corporate placements, the University also provides a lot of support to students who want to give the civil services or the judiciary exams. It even contacts lawyers under whom litigating students want to practice. Also, we have a lot of opportunities which help students improve their CV for further studies in India or abroad. We have amazing things happening in the University all the year round. We have an active debating society, a quiz club, a dance club and a music club. We have frequent acoustic nights in the hostels. We have 'Footloose' where students dance for 90 seconds to a random song. We have monthly quizzes which are informative as well as a lot of fun. Cricket, football and basketball are popular and we have intra college competitions on a regular basis. All in all, GNLU is a fun place. It has its positives and negatives but I think once you join, it depends on you whether you want to enjoy the positives or crib about the negatives. Cheers A
