1. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored twice as Barcelona and Real Madrid drew 2-2 in a politically-charged 'Clasico' which kept the Catalan giant eight points ahead of its bitter rival in the Spanish League. 2. It looked all too simple for North Zone: turn up, unleash a blustering Ishant Sharma (four for 29) and knock the stuffing out of West Zone on the third day of the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal match here on Monday. Only Parthiv Patel (51, 106b, 8x4) gritted it out to bolster the score. 3. The Shivaji Stadium, in its new swanky avatar, resumed its love story with the sport when it hosted the inaugural match of the 19th Nehru girls' hockey tournament between Career Residential Academy, Thoubal, Manipur and M.L. Girls Higher Secondary School, Jashipur, Chhattisgarh. 4. The coach of the Indian team, that returned to Level I in the 21st FIBA Asian under-18 women's basketball championship recently, was all praise for her girls.Shiba Maggon, who has been a key player in the women's squad over the years and has settled nicely into the coaching job, was particularly pleased with the performance of P.S. Jeena and Shireen Limaye. 5. The second doping case involving shot putter Saurabh Vij was adjourned to October 22 on Monday with little headway being made in arguing the case. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) filed its objections to the athlete's lawyers seeking to cross-examine 14 witnesses. 6. Host JJ CET defeated UCE, Pattukottai by 44 runs and entered the quarterfinals of the Anna University inter-zonal cricket tournament. 7. France's Richard Gasquet rediscovered the winning formula on Monday after last week's shock defeat to a Chinese wildcard, cruising into the second round of the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament alongside Croatia's Marin Cilic. Gasquet crashed to a humiliating loss at the China Open when Zhang Ze closed a rankings gap of 151 places to beat him, just days after the Frenchman won the T hailand Open by beating compatriot Gilles Simon in the final. 8. Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan opened his campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 win over former National champion Vijay Kannan in the men's first round of the Fenesta National tennis championship at the DLTA Complex. 9. Vijay and Young Stars swept to outright wins to make the cut for the knockouts in the TNCA's first division. They join Globe Trotters and Jolly Rovers in the semifinals, making it a similar cast to last season's – Young Stars for India Pistons being the only change in the top four. 10. Binu Aquito of Madras Christian College set the lone meet record on the opening day of the AL Mudaliar athletics meet at the Nehru Stadium. The 22-year-old emerged triumphant in the men's 400m hurdles in a time of 53.00 seconds and in the process erased the record set by Yogesh of JHA Agarsen (53.4s) in the year 2010-11. All the best.
